We thought of a blog created for our community. We want to share our vision of the importance of exercise in society. We work for an informed and updated community.
Nothing is more pertinent to the first opinion article, than talking about physical exercise in quarantine times. This tragic moment being recorded in this way, to remember later ... But optimism and perseverance is what we have to fight this whole “war” scenario.
As we all know, we have been plagued by a devastating pandemic that has hit every continent without choosing social class or race. For humans the world has stopped! States of emergency were enacted, with mandatory quarantines and with the slogan "Stay at home". Teleworking gains greater expression, some of the professions adapt, but a large part, I would never imagine having to use this tool to survive. Thus, several professionals from different areas are forced to confinement and work in their homes, together with taking care of children and household chores. An imposed sedentary lifestyle, for the sake of public health. I would say, something counterproductive, but a lesser evil. If the majority of the population already suffered from a sedentary lifestyle, now restricted to their homes, anxiety levels such as physical deficits gain greater preponderance. Not even a walk, a short run, a trip to the gym, commuting or shopping. Stop! Because, who was already sedentary, became even more and who was not became! In this context, the exercise begins to gain a greater preponderance, that small minority of 6% of Portuguese who practiced some physical activity, are thirsty to move, as for the other large slice, I believe that at least a small percentage, now with more time, give yourself the opportunity, to try anything!
Exercise has great health benefits and we have several studies to support it. Not only physical benefits, which are of course important, for better autonomy, response to daily demands, self-esteem and performance, but also a chemical benefit, with the production and release of hormones, associated with pleasure, which we do not see, but that are there and that contradict the tendency that a quarantine causes, such as mental fatigue, mood swings, oscillations of happiness, etc.
Now, if physical exercise in a so-called normal situation would have its importance, in a pandemic state it gains prominence and eminence. Therefore, moving is imperative in order not to lose physical capacities or our emotional stability. We want everyone to move, but well! Why do we defend this idea?
Because in a quarantine where everyone is at home, students use videos, classes, exercises, plans, but all of them online. And what is the concern in moving, but well? Because whoever is on the other side passing a whole class, most of them don't really know their recipients of the message! Moving well presupposes that the student knows his limitations, his needs and what his goals are, but also the issuer. Because those who pass content online will be limited by a barrier, with a lack of on-site evaluation! So we ask, is that class adapted to you? Does the video lesson have information for the care to be taken? Who teaches the class knows its limitations? Above all, it should not be the student who bends before the exercise, but what is required, must be framed with the student's abilities. Respecting the principle of individuality.
For these reasons, Kinetic, like other companies, had to adapt and enter the online world. Thus, we offer our students online training, classes built exclusively for our community, of which we know their particularities, giving space for some monitoring, avoiding “attacking” the biology of each student.
Realize that a sedentary lifestyle is not an option! Associated with this problem are cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, depression, failure of the immune system, which all together have caused much lower than any pandemic. So move, preferably well!
